MustLuvBoxers RescueFor our latest round of grant-giving, we asked pet parents for their favorite shelter groups. Before long, Washington state group MustLuvBoxers Rescue was at the forefront of the Facebook comments. Popular opinion and MustLuvBoxer’s passion for homeless pets earned it a $500 grant through the Healthy Paws Foundation’s Every Quote Gives Hope program.

MustLuvBoxers Rescue is based in Edmonds, Washington. “As a fairly new rescue organization, we are dedicated to rescuing and rehoming unwanted Boxers in Washington State,” said MLBR volunteer Brenda Dawson. “Our focus is on providing education and resources to Boxer owners, while promoting spaying and neutering, to encourage responsible care.”

The shelter is all-volunteer, giving ever dollar donated back to the dogs in need. Innovative fundraisers – like putting adoptable Boxers’ faces on bottles of Washington wine and partnering with subscription service BarkBox – help bring in donations, as do MustLuvBoxer’s dedicated fan base.

But like any shelter, MustLuvBoxers struggle at times to fund the pricey medical care its animals often require. This year in particular has been rough as the rescue saw an influx of unaltered surrenders. Since spaying and neutering their dogs is a top priority for MustLuvBoxers, these surgeries are affecting funds. The Every Quote Gives Hope grant will fund either three male neuters or two female spay surgeries!

“In the first three months of 2015 our veterinary bills totaled over half the total amount reached in all of 2014,” said Brenda Dawson. “Therefore, your grant comes at a very crucial time so that we can continue to save more Boxers, and reduce overpopulation.”

Despite financial obstacles, the dog-lovers at MustLuvBoxers continue to rescue Boxers. The volunteers-only nature of the group is what makes MLBR so successful in caring for homeless pets. “We are a strong team of volunteers with a passion for the Boxer breed,” affirmed Brenda Dawson. “Through our continued hard work, and financial assistance from programs like yours, we will strongly support and promote rescues, whether it is from a shelter or an individual – anywhere there is a Boxer in need of a lov[ing] home.”
