At Healthy Paws, we love to share the stories of like-minded companies who have started a business or created a product that is not just for pets, but helps homeless pets and contributes to bettering animal welfare too. We found a pet-passionate friend earlier this year when veterinarian Glenn Buckley emailed us.
Several years ago, Dr. Buckley (DVM) founded Pet Rescue Rx with the mission that they would be “a pets before profits pharmacy.” Located in Akron, NY, Pet Rescue Rx not only provides affordable medicines for pet parents, but also donates funds to shelters and rescues in the United States.
“I started Pet Rescue Rx to financially support animal shelters and rescues across the country,” says Dr. Buckley. “Pet Rescue Rx is an online pharmacy for pet medications which donates all profits to these organizations selected by our customers. We have donated over $100,000 so far. I do this because it has been my passion to assist the rescue community not only as a veterinarian but now with a business as well.”
Dr. Buckley had been a vet for over thirty years in Florida, operating two animal hospitals before moving to New York and embarking on this passion. “As a veterinarian, I was able to help one pet at a time, but with Pet Rescue Rx we end up helping so many more,” says Dr. Buckley. “I have seen first-hand the need of animal shelters both large and small to continue the amazing job they do. Pet Rescue Rx continues providing financial support to shelters from the purchases our customers make.” That’s a big point of difference: not just are all the profits from the business donated, they are donated to shelters and rescues selected by the customer. Essentially, you’re directly supporting your shelter of choice as you get your pet’s prescriptions.
“Pet parents have options today on where they purchase their pet medications, and Pet Rescue Rx gives them a great choice because they save money and also support the rescue effort,” Dr. Buckley explains. “Pet Rescue Rx is certified by the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy as a safe a trustworthy retailer to by pet medications. This is the highest certification in the US.
I decided to do something that benefits the rescues and shelters over making money for the investors and stockholders of other businesses selling pet medications.”
Pet Rescue Rx is expanding to all states (each state has a different licensing regulation), and Dr. Buckley is hoping that by 2020, they’ll be able to ship to every state.
“I know that there is a passion for helping these pets find homes and fulfillment in being a part of something great,” says Dr. Buckley. “Just think about the shelters in your area both large and small which have suffered with funding and donation decreases. Think about all those faces that need our support and help. These faces still need food, and the comforts of air conditioning on a hot summer day, heat in the winter and a dry place to sleep. They need medical care and everything else that money can buy. I take no compensation from Pet Rescue Rx. This is my way of giving back to the pets which have brought so much happiness to my life. This is what they deserve.”
