Earlier this year two deserving college students received a financial boost to help pay for college tuition, courtesy of academic scholarships from Healthy Paws Pet Insurance – the #1 customer-rated provider of insurance for dogs and cats.

“The scholarships not only support students as they pursue their education in veterinary medicine and animal advocacy, but also foster our commitment to ensuring a better life for all pets,” says Rob Jackson, co-founder and CEO of Healthy Paws Pet Insurance.

The Animal Advocate Scholarship is designated for a student with significant volunteer experience enrolled in an accredited institution in the United States, and the Veterinary Student Scholarship is designated for a student enrolled in an accredited vet medicine program in the United States. Recipients are chosen based on educational merits and extracurricular dedication to improving animal welfare.

Spring 2017 Recipients

Marianne Rogers, Animal Advocate Scholarship recipient, is enrolled in the animal science program at California Polytechnic University, in San Luis Obispo, California. An active member of the equestrian team and wildlife club, Rogers’ outstanding qualifications and academic achievement make her a natural fit for the scholarship.

“I truly appreciate this generous scholarship; it enables me to dedicate more of my time towards studies and volunteer opportunities, rather than working as much to pay my tuition,” Rogers says. “This scholarship will enrich my opportunities here, so I would like to pass on my sincerest gratitude for that privilege.”

David Rubincam, Veterinary Student Scholarship recipient, is enrolled in the veterinary technology program at Pierce College in Fort Steilacoom, Washington. An active animal shelter volunteer who’s tried retirement twice, Rubincam decided to pursue a career as a veterinary technician to better contribute to quality clinical care for shelter animals. This scholarship will make it possible for Rubincam to attend an externship at Washington State University’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the spring—an experience that wasn’t previously in his budget.

“When you go to retirement planning conferences, you are advised to have a reason to get up in the morning. I have found mine—being an advocate for homeless animals and using my skills to further their welfare,” Rubincam says.

Healthy Paws is now accepting scholarship applications for the fall 2017 semester. The application deadline is June 30, 2017.
