On November 23rd, we’re happy to join humans and pups across the globe in celebrating Wolfenoot, a holiday started by a child in New Zealand. His mom posted on Facebook:

My son has invented a holiday called Wolfenoot. It is when the Spirit of the Wolf brings and hides small gifts around the house for everyone. People who have, have had, or are kind to dogs get better gifts than anyone else. You eat roast meat (because wolves eat meat) and cake decorated like a full moon. A holiday to the spirit of wolves that celebrates people who are kind to dogs? I can 100% get behind this. So we will be celebrating Wolfenoot. It’s on the 23rd November if anyone else is moved to celebrate it. 😉 If you do, please post pics, so he can see how his idea has spread. If you’re posting publicly about it, use #wolfenoot.

We celebrated a little early at the Healthy Paws offices at our monthly “pup rally” (what we call our company-wide meetings) with cake and a very special poem on November 20th. Without further ado, Happy Wolfenoot!

‘Twas a few nights before Wolfenoot, when all through the land,

Not a pup knew what was coming, no clue what was planned;

The leashes were hung by the front door with care,

In hopes that the Wolf Spirit soon would be there;

The doggos were nestled all snug in their beds;

While visions of “roast beast” danced in their heads;

And Dog Moms in their aprons, and Pup-Pas with their bowls,

Had just start baking a full moon cake for the kindest of souls,

For there’d been on the internet a boisterous clatter,

A holiday to honor those who are kind to dogs, let’s prepare the cake batter!

Started by a child, only 7 in New Zealand,

His mom’s post went viral, and gave us all the feelin’s!

Henceforth, every year on the 23rd of November

Will be called Wolfenoot, and kindness we remember.

We celebrate with roast meat, full moon cakes, and presents,

To those who have been kind to dogs, especially pet parents.

At Healthy Paws, we’re proud to say we’ve participated,

To 6 pet food pantries (among others!) $30,000 has been donated.

For you and your family – cat, rabbit, dog, or fish,

Kindness, gratitude, and love, we certainly do wish.

So while many may be out shopping, grabbing Black Friday deals,

We hope you’re giving your pets extra special, super delicious meals.

This holiday, whether you hit the road or board a long flight,

We say, “Happy Wolfenoot to all, and to all a good night!”
