This holiday season, families – including their four-legged members – will gather together to share love, joy, and special meals. Unfortunately, not all dogs and cats will get to enjoy the comfort of a loving home and a full belly.

For Giving Tuesday, the Healthy Paws Foundation is donating $20,000 to Rescue Bank, a program of GreaterGood.org, to help feed needy pets across the country. GreaterGood.org is a charitable organization that runs a program called Rescue Bank, which distributes donated pet food to animal welfare non-profits throughout America. The funding will help Rescue Bank ship pet food to regional affiliates who then distribute it to pre-qualified recipients. With these pet food donations, pet rescue groups are then able to refocus part of their pet food budgets toward much needed veterinary care, spay/neuter, and facility maintenance.

Though holiday giving often focuses on friends and family, we invite you to join us in also supporting those in need. Even if funds are tight, there are many ways you can support pet rescue organizations:

  • Volunteer: organizations need a wide variety of help, including interacting with pets, fostering, marketing, photography, laundry, cleaning, and much more.
  • Donate: unopened pet food, spare towels, new toys, beds, leashes, or monetary donations
  • Refer a friend to Healthy Paws: for every friend that applies, we’ll donate $25 on your behalf toward helping homeless pets

What is Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a Global Generosity Movement that takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving every year. This year, it falls on December 3rd. The day after Thanksgiving marks the start of the holiday shopping season for many Americans. Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the focus for most businesses and people is shopping. Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 to shift the focus and encourage people to do good and “unleash generosity”.
